Surgical Technology Testbed

The Testbed is a collaboration platform for evaluation and evidence generation in surgical settings and started off with four healthcare providers (Bradford, Hull, Leeds and Sheffield).  It was developed jointly by the Surgical MedTech Co-operative, and the main surgical centres in Yorkshire and the Humber.

OBJECTIVES OF THE TESTBED

We provide medical technology companies with a rapid and affordable route to early and late phase evaluation of surgical technologies; by facilitating the generation of an evidence base that enables the evaluation of innovation that addresses NHS priorities.

Medical technology companies will be able to collect and analyse clinical performance and cost effectiveness data within an NHS setting.

This can include technologies:

  • for use in a surgical environment that do not directly impact on patients
  • that use patient data but are not used in treatment
  • that are CE-marked but with minor adaptations
  • that are completely new and require full clinical testing on patients
